Barry Rosenbaum, Ph.D

Co-Founder / President / Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Rosenbaum is the President and CEO of AAI, and also works with the University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF) as Senior Fellow focused on technology commercialization from university research, angel Investment, and regional innovation in Northeast Ohio.  He has had experience working with three other university start-ups in leadership roles.

Prior to joining UARF, Dr. Rosenbaum worked for more than 35 years in industry, including serving as Technology Director for OMNOVA Solutions, Vice President of Technology for Advanced Elastomer Systems, and Technology Director of Exxon Chemical’s EPDM Rubber Business.  He has commercialized Bromobutyl elastomers, Santoprene Thermoplastic Elastomers, MemErase Dry Erase Films, and PolyFox Fluorosurfactants in his career.  Dr. Rosenbaum holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University.

Professor Josh Wong is the inventor of AAI's dry adhesive technology, co-founder of the company, and currently serves as its Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer. Professor Wong is a full professor with tenure at the University of Akron in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (F.ASME) in 2014 and in 2015, was elected Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (F.SPE).

Dr. Wong has authored and coauthored over 70 research articles in books, journals and patent literatures, with additional papers in conference proceedings and refereed abstracts. There were over 3200 citations, a Hirsh-index = 27 and i-10 > 53, according to Google Scholar, as of early 2016. One paper on graphite nanocomposites was cited >400 times. In 2007 he was selected for an NSF Faculty Early CAREER Award entitled "Electrospinning-Enabled Bio-Inspired Materials Research and Education" from the Program of Materials Processing and Manufacturing.

Chief Operating Officer / Principal Scientist

Dr. White received undergraduate degrees from Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas) and Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) in Physical Science and Industrial Engineering, respectively, and received a Ph.D from Texas A&M University in Mechanical Engineering in 2013 from work in Prof. Hung-Jue Sue's research group on the rheology of nanoparticle suspensions.  Dr. White worked as a postdoctoral fellow for the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER) at Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan) for 2 years under the supervision of Prof. Atsushi Takahara and joined Akron Ascent Innovations in May 2015.

Dana Conover is the Vice President of Sales and Market Development at Akron Ascent Innovations. Prior to joining AAI, he worked as the Director of Innovation and New Product Development for Elmer’s Products in Westerville, OH. He previously led new business, marketing, and product development efforts at different companies, including Decoart, Monogram International, and Crayola. Throughout his career, Dana has consistently worked to validate and introduce breakthrough technologies.

Chief Financial Officer / Secretary

In addition to her roles as CFO and secretary for AAI, Ms. Ball is assistant legal counsel to UARF. Ms. Ball holds a J.D. from Boston University and is a licensed attorney in the State of Ohio. She has substantial experience in intellectual property law and recently co-authored a book on patents for scientists and engineers. She has assisted in the formation, organization and early-stage development of several startup companies.

Fei Wang, Ph.D

Lead Chemist

Dr. Wang received a Ph.D. degree in polymer chemistry and physics from the Institute of Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China in 2012.  His graduate research focused on polymer dynamics at the single molecule level.  After graduating, he worked for two years as a postdoctoral research assistant in block and random copolymers at the University of Akron in Prof. Robert Weiss's research group.  Dr. Wang has been interested in geography since he was 8 and enjoys feeding his curiosity by trying to understand a bit more about the colorful world every day.

Rebecca Kuznarsky

Rebecca received her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron in Chemical Engineering with a biology specialization.  She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron in 2013, under Prof. Judit Puskas.  Her thesis work focused on using electrospun nanofibers for "nano-texturing" to improve the biocompatibility of breast implants.

Upon graduation, Rebecca worked for Chemstress Consultant Co. as a process engineer and SNS Nano Fiber Technology as a research engineer.  Rebecca joined the team at AAI in October 2016.

Tom Waltermire

Thomas A. Waltermire was Chairman and CEO of PolyOne Corporation, an international polymer company. He has also served in executive positions with BF Goodrich and The Geon Company. Tom led Geon in its initial public offering as CFO and later served as its Chairman & CEO.  After leaving PolyOne, Mr. Waltermire served for several years as CEO of Team Northeast Ohio (Team NEO), a regional private-sector-led economic development organization. Mr. Waltermire’s education includes a B.S. in Biological Sciences from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Harvard University. Mr. Waltermire serves on several business boards, spanning both large and early stage companies.  He was the founding Chairman of the Ohio Polymer Strategy Council, appointed by three Ohio Governors to the Third Frontier Advisory Board and is a Board Member of The Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Zoological Society, ideastream (PBS/NPR) and Baldwin Wallace University.
