Barry Rosenbaum, Ph.D - Co-Founder, CEO, President

Dr. Barry Rosenbaum is the President and CEO of AAI, and also works with the University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF) as Senior Fellow focused on technology commercialization from university research, angel Investment, and regional innovation in Northeast Ohio.  He has had experience working with three other university start-ups in leadership roles.

Prior to joining UARF, Dr. Rosenbaum worked for more than 35 years in industry, including serving as Technology Director for OMNOVA Solutions, Vice President of Technology for Advanced Elastomer Systems, and Technology Director of Exxon Chemical’s EPDM Rubber Business.  He has commercialized Bromobutyl elastomers, Santoprene Thermoplastic Elastomers, MemErase Dry Erase Films, and PolyFox Fluorosurfactants in his career.  Dr. Rosenbaum holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University.

Josh Wong, Ph.D - Co-Founder, CTO, Vice-President

Professor Josh Wong is the inventor of AAI's dry adhesive technology, co-founder of the company, and currently serves as its Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer. Professor Wong is a full professor with tenure at the University of Akron in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (F.ASME) in 2014 and in 2015, was elected Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (F.SPE).

Dr. Wong has authored and coauthored over 70 research articles in books, journals and patent literatures, with additional papers in conference proceedings and refereed abstracts. There were over 3200 citations, a Hirsh-index = 27 and i-10 > 53, according to Google Scholar, as of early 2016. One paper on graphite nanocomposites was cited >400 times. In 2007 he was selected for an NSF Faculty Early CAREER Award entitled "Electrospinning-Enabled Bio-Inspired Materials Research and Education" from the Program of Materials Processing and Manufacturing.

Kevin L. White, Ph.D -- COO and Principal Scientist

Dr. Kevin White (Principal Scientist and COO) manages the day-to-day activities of AAI.  Dr. White received undergraduate degrees from Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas) and Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) in Physical Science and Industrial Engineering, respectively, and received a Ph.D from Texas A&M University in Mechanical Engineering in 2013 from work in Prof. Hung-Jue Sue's research group on the rheology of nanoparticle suspensions.

Dr. White worked as a postdoctoral fellow for the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER) at Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan) for 2 years under the supervision of Prof. Atsushi Takahara and joined Akron Ascent Innovations in May 2015.

Elyse Ball, Esq., is the CFO and Secretary of Akron Ascent Innovations, LLC.

Elyse Ball is CFO and secretary for AAI and also works as legal counsel to UARF.  Ms. Ball holds a J.D. from Boston University and is a licensed attorney in the State of Ohio. She has substantial experience in intellectual property law and recently co-authored a book on patents for scientists and engineers. She has assisted in the formation, organization and early-stage development of several startup companies.

Fei Wang, Ph.D - Lead Materials Scientist

Dr. Fei Wang (Materials Scientist) creates the polymer blends needed for the adhesive and performs laboratory electrospinning. He leads efforts to provide electrospun samples that meet the specifications of customers and collaborators.

Ali Blandon Cruz - Lead Engineer

Ali Blandon Cruz is a recent graduate of the University of Akron with an MS in mechanical engineering from Dr. Wong’s lab and is involved in efforts to scale-up adhesive production, including assisting with engineering of larger electrospinners capable of producing AAI’s adhesive.
