AAI Tops the List of Semi-Finalists for Green Chemistry Technology Showcase

Akron Ascent Innovations has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3) Startup Network 4th Annual Technology Showcase. AAI is one of 10 companies selected, which collectively represent Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, in industries including personal care, building, apparel and textiles, cleaning products, electronics, adhesives and coatings, bioplastics, pharmaceutical, and energy.

The selection followed a competitive process by the GC3 Startup Network to find startups making significant innovations to sustainable chemistry materials, products, and/or manufacturing technologies. The semi-finalists will present a 3-minute pitch to a panel of investors, major brands and manufacturers at the GC3 Startup Network’s 4th Annual Technology Showcase on May 7, 2019. The Technology Showcase immediately precedes the 14th Annual GC3 Innovators Roundtable (May 7 – 9, 2019) hosted this year by Procter & Gamble, North America Fabric Care in Cincinnati, OH. Three companies will be selected for a 7-minute pitch the following day to an investor panel including representatives from Eastman, Nouryon, Estee Lauder Companies, and Safer Made.

The event is organized by the GC3 Startup Network, a program that fosters green chemistry entrepreneurship and accelerates the development of and market pull for green chemistry technologies. “GC3 members actively seek to offer products that are not only high-performing and cost-competitive, but also safe for people and the environment,” said Julie Manley, Coordinator of the GC3 Startup Network. Nearly 20 GC3 members, including Lowe’s, HP, Inc., Beiersdorf AG, Sherwin-Williams, and Eastman have contributed to a list of sustainable chemistry technology needs to help clarify priority areas.

The other semi-finalists presented at the Technology Showcase include Colorifix Limited, Defunkify, EmulGreen, Genecis Bioindustries Inc., Iron Shell LLC , Magnomer, Performance BioFilaments Inc., Visolis, Inc., and VivaVax Inc.

About Akron Ascent Innovations

AAI is a start-up company based in Akron, OH that has developed a revolutionary new type of ultra-low tack, removable adhesives material made from nanofibers. This new class of materials is able to achieve a strong, but easily removable, bond between surfaces through nanoscale interactions. This approach to adhesion was inspired by nature and is widely used in the animal kingdom, including beetles, spiders, and geckos.  AAI’s platform approach to dry adhesion can be used for a range of applications, ranging from temporary signage, home décor, wall hanging hooks, and picture frame tabs, to automotive assembly, packaging, smart clothing, electronics handling, and closures .
