Akron Ascent Innovations (AAI), a University of Akron spin-off company commercializing a new class of adhesive materials, is pleased to announce that former PolyOne CEO Tom Waltermire will join the team as a Strategic Adviser. “Tom is joining AAI at an exciting time as we are transitioning from lab demonstrations and pilot scale production up to bigger volumes and broader markets,” said Dr. Barry Rosenbaum, CEO of AAI. “His experience in the polymer industry will significantly strengthen our positions with our leading customers. His advice has already served to sharpen our focus for product commercialization.”
Mr. Waltermire brings to AAI an extensive track record of building and managing successful businesses as a corporate leader, investor, and board director. Prior to joining AAI, Mr. Waltermire was Chairman and CEO of PolyOne Corporation, an international polymer company. He also served in executive positions with BF Goodrich and The Geon Company. Mr. Waltermire led Geon in its initial public offering as CFO and later served as its Chairman & CEO. After leaving PolyOne, Mr. Waltermire served for several years as CEO of Team Northeast Ohio (Team NEO), a regional private-sector-led economic development organization. Mr. Waltermire’s education includes a B.S. in Biological Sciences from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Harvard University. Mr. Waltermire serves on several business boards, spanning both large and early stage companies. He was the founding Chairman of the Ohio Polymer Strategy Council, appointed by three Ohio Governors to the Third Frontier Advisory Board and is a Board Member of the Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Zoological Society, ideastream (PBS/NPR) and Baldwin Wallace University.
