Akron Ascent Innovations received a $100,000 Technology Validation and Start-Up Fund (TVSF) Phase II award from the Ohio Third Frontier Commission to assist in the development of bio-inspired reusable adhesives produced by electrospinning. The award follows prior support from the Third Frontier Commission in the form of a $40,000 TVSF Phase I award, and $100,000 in support from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I award.
The Ohio Third Frontier Commission is an economic development initiative to expand technological development in the state of Ohio. The $1.6 billion project began in 2002 and operates a range of programs to aide small businesses. A 2010 report found that the program has attracted 637 high-tech companies to Ohio and created 55,000 new jobs, with an overall economic impact of $6.6 billion dollars, a 9x return on the initial investment.
